Varalakshmi Vratham Pooja
On the Friday before the full moon in the Tamil month of “Aadi,” which corresponds to the English months of July and August, Varalakshmi Vratha is observed. The purpose of the celebration is to honour the goddess Lakshmi. Varalakshmi is the name of the goddess of blessings (Varam).
Shakthi is represented by Lakshmi, the wife of Lord Vishnu. It is known that there are eight of these energies: Sri (Wealth), Bhu (Earth), Sarasvati (Learning), Priti (Love), Kirti (Fame), Shanti (Peace), Tushti (Pleasure), and Pushti (Strength). The collective name for the eight forces is Ashta Lakshmi, or “eight Lakshmis.”
Lakshmi Pooja
All blessings are granted by Goddess Lakshmi to those who do Lakshmi Pooja with exceptional devotion and morality. Goddess Lakshmi is the god of abundance, light, prosperity, knowledge, fortune, and fertility. She is regarded as Lord Vishnu’s consort and brings stability in matters of money. To obtain the blessings of the goddess Lakshmi, this Pooja is conducted.
This pooja is performed by calling upon Goddess Lakshmi, chanting mantras, and then doing the pooja as prescribed by the shastras.
